Pensions Information

There are a number of different types of pensions that you may have already or may wish to consider. These include stakeholder pensions, personal pensions, executive pensions, group personal pensions, small self-administered schemes (SSAS), self invested personal pensions (SIPP) and annuities.

Pensions range from the relatively straightforward, where you pay contributions into a range of pension provider funds to the sophisticated, where you may have commercial property owned by your own pension fund.

The aim of a pension is simply to build up a fund of money during your working life that will produce an income and some tax-free cash for you in retirement. The government gives generous tax breaks for you or your company making contributions towards a pension and on the growth inside a pension fund.

When you get to retirement you have a number of opportunities and choices, depending on your pension arrangements, on how you take your income and any tax-free cash available to you. For example, whether you want a level income or a rising income and, if you are married, whether you require any spouse's benefits.

It should be remembered that investment values are not guaranteed and these may fall as well as rise and that past performance is no guarantee of future performance.
